The Portuguese Embassy in Riyadh has gladly received the news of the lifting of restrictions in Saudi Arabia so that women may drive automobiles.

We greet the measure on its own merits, but also for the positive signals it conveys on the national transformation process and on the universal progress in ending discrimination of all sorts, as well as on the recognition of women’s status.

The President of the Portuguese Republic, Professor Rebelo de Sousa, wrote a letter congratulating the Custodian of the Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, on this matter. The Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Professor Augusto Santos Silva, has also sent a similar letter to the Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Adel AlJubeir.
